Repeatedly when I ask Katie NOT to do something, she automatically fires back with "Certainly I WILL!" or "Of course I WILL!" and then immediately - and dramatically - goes and does what I just asked her not to. Hello 3-year-old defiance! So last night as we were heading up the stairs to bed I told Katie I was disappointed in some of her behavior yesterday. Her response: "Maybe tomorrow I'll be better." I told her that would be nice...
This morning we finally have some sunshine and since Katie's window faces East, she got up at 5:30 am. Since she had all kinds of time to play before school, she spent the morning in her new swimsuit cleaning the windows in the kitchen. (For whatever reason, she thinks this is big fun). When I told her it was time to get dressed for school, of course a meltdown ensued. I pointed out that she had said she would be better today. She stopped dead in her tracks and - in her swimsuit with a wad of paper towels in one hand and the Windex in the other - looked at me and said "I. Said. MAYBE!"
Touche!!
I laughed at her - I couldn't help it because that is exactly what she had said! Ha!
When I finally got her clothes on, she demanded to do socks and shoes herself. Fine. She went out the door to school this morning in a navy/yellow outfit and these tacky purple socks with white lace (they are hideous so of course she loves them) and black church shoes...
